S-C TYPE

I think this test reveal personality and very hard to be changed. It can be borned with or reflected growing up environment. I'm glad with what I am and I don't really want to be someone else. I am a S-C type which is a kind person like to cooperate with everyone in a group. I like to provide ideas and lead people to focus on what I said but I'm not a leader to allot jobs for every group member. I just want to get work done and have a good time with my team. However I'm not a blinkfold follower who only give agreement. I think this test is very ture and interesting. I agree with companys use these kind of test in interview but can't make a judgement just depend on that information. This test has to be combined with aspects.

BLOG EVALUATION

This blog is very helpful to let us deeply understand what we do in class. I treat it more like my diary which recorded our class activities, regarding what we learned and how I thought about it. After I finish mine I also can go to classmates' blog to see how they feel and what they did. If our group failed class activities we can learn from other group from their blogs. I like this unique assignment. It's a lot better than reading test book or writing annoying essay. Since the blog top is directly linked with class activity we can briefly describe what we actually do and how we think about it. It's a lot easier than giving us a management essay and writing nonsense which we can't totally understand. If anything need to be improved I wish we can have more.

Poem About Management

Manager is communicating
Listen to people complaining
Although listen is the key to understanding
Manager is still misunderstanding

Manager tries to make a decision
People don’t show participation
In order to inspire motivation
Manager gives away his position

Teamwork is important
Failed since power realignment
Manger needs to do adjustment
Failed because didn’t take management

Vision

I'm an unrealistic person. I don't believe vision before this class because I have a lot of visions but none of it has been completed. I was thinking about to become an actress but English is not my native language so I gave up. I also think about to travel all around the world. At least visiting one country each year however it also failed since the lacking of money. Currently two of my failed goals are majoring in accounting at Baruch and starting internship. The fisrt one failed because after taking one course of accounting I find out I'm not interested in that major. It is so bored I can't imagine that the rest of my life will sit in an office facing a computer doing all these boring calculation. I failed to go internship because of laziness. After watching this video I finally understand why I'm a such loser who can not reach any goal of life, that is because I lack of action. Without action vision is just a dream.

I'm going to set up my new visions and this this I will also plan the actions to reach them
1) Getting into F.I.T
2) Travel to Japan this Christmas
3) Start my career in China after graduate from college

My first vision has been processing. I have sent application form and essay. All i can do right now is waiting. I am going to major in cosmetics and fragrance marketing in F.I.T. That major is very hot in China so I'm very confident that I can get a great job in China if i graduate from F.I.T. This is the most important goal in my life because it is the first step for everything. To travel to Japan I need to get a job now and save money for that trip. This one is the easiest goal. For moving back to China is a piece of cake. I have a lot of friends and relatives in China, plus a diploma from F.I.T there won't be any problem for me to get a great job that I want.

Mc DONALD'S special experience

This odd experience is much easier than what I thought. I accomplished it
smoothly and successfully in 5 minutes. I went to a Mc DONALD’S near my working
place during lunch time. When I saw there was a long line I was so nervous because I
thought my special order would take long time to complete and maybe all the staffs
would get involve in that. I picked a lady who looks nice and started to present my
special order. I was so surprised that she took it as a normal order, neither gave me an attitude nor showing weary. First, she put fries that already have been cooked into oil pot to cook again. And then tell the kitchen to make a hamburger with exactly 4 pickles on it. After couple minutes she took out the well done fries. Everything has been done step by step as a piece of cake I didn’t daunt them at all. But when I get the receipt, there is only 4 pickles burger but didn’t state well done fries. Not surprise, she told me her machine can not make this special receipt. I requested to see the manager but I didn’t get chance to talk to the manager because the cashier has already gone to her manager by explaining my situation and brought back the receipt with manager’s signature and my special order on it in hand writing. The whole process is clear and fast. I checked my order that was exactly followed my request. During the process I was treated nicely, no one looked at me as a crazy person. Since the cashier was very smart, only two staffs involved in my case.

I’m very satisfied with Mc DONALD’S service. The way they handle troubles are effective and decisive. That is very important to a fast food restaurant because customers won’t be patient to wait at a long line. The service they provide are also very effective. Doesn’t matter the customer’s request is reasonable or not they will always deliver satisfaction. I just said once my order and emphasized a receipt with my special order on it, the cashier understand me very well, didn’t even question me anything. This company is very organized. The lower level workers try to get everything that within their control to be done. Anything out of their power they ask the manager for help. Manager will always satisfy customers. Obviously the manger and cashier I encountered with have rich experiences so that they solve troubles composedly. They don’t waste time to argue with you or question you because time is money toward a fast food restaurant. The only thing they need to do is satisfy customers so instead of explaining why they can not print a special receipt for me, the manager hand wrote a receipt. Unfortunately my case didn’t challenge the manager at all. She only spent 1 minute to sign a receipt for me. I have no extra advice need to give to them. They did a very good job.

Decision making

This is the second experiment of making a decision. This time the task is much harder then designing an egg protector. Not like the first time, Professor assigned everything and maxium 5 people in a group to make a decision. This time, the leader(professor) doesn't play any role and give group member enough freedom to decide what we want. Not like a small group that we are easier to compromise, the whole class need to agree with one idea in the limited time seems like an impossible task. But we did it, it is a shock to me. Bailey has a great leadership who steps out to lead the whole class make a compromise and solve the chaos situation, make an impossible task become possible.

At begainning, eveyone tries to compete and win agreement. Since different people have different needs, some people did bad at the exam try to higher their grades and people who did well want to change the test format to do even better next time. I use the compromise approach because I don't like the conflict. Whatever final decision will not affect me that much as long as I study hard I can handle every test format. I just want to follow the majority opinion to get a best deal for everyone so I didn't against anyone or any idea. I just sit behind and be quite. Time passing very fast people are still arguing and trying to get personal benefit, obviously it doesn't work. I can see the rest of peole start to worry about the risky condition because if there is no compromise decision come out at the end of class we will not get anything. We don't know what decision will be passed and don't the effects. Breaking down to small groups is the best way I can think but doesn't work at this chaos situation. No one wants to listen or waste time but actually they waste more time by arguing and competing. At this time, a powerful leader steps out and calms everyone down. She respect everyone's idea and ask why they make the decision. Suddenly, the procedure became organized and more peaceful. Finally we all agree with drop the lowest grade and double the highest one, also provide extra credits. This final decision looks like benefit eveyone. The experiment once again shows the importance of leadership. If Bailey didn't step out become a leader charactor i don't think we can come up with a decision in the end. There has to be a leader to guide group members to make a decision. The importance of management is once again presented.

Planning Process (egg project)

Our group didn't success at making an effective egg protector as we think it will work. When the egg drop down and cracked i was so disappointed because i really think our group did a very good job, we actually go through every step. First, we defined our goal was to make a contraption to prevent egg from breaking when it hits the ground. Also, 50% of the egg has to be visible. We kept reminding each other that we only have 25 minutes to plan and actually 10 minutes to finish the contraption. The materials we have are very limited, there are only 8 flexible straws and not very sticky tape and only one scissor for the whole class. We decided to not use scissor since we know the percentage to get it from so many groups was very low so we can save the time to do something else. We also asked our group members who ever had this kind of experience before but unfortunately no one did. After determining our resources we begin to come up with some ideas. We don't actually have a leader, everyone tries to contribute good ideas. The only guy in our group come up with making a cushion on the bottom of the egg by crossing over straws and taped it up to the egg. We taped the two sides of the straws to keep air inside and we think this is a genius idea to protect the egg but we still failed because we didn't calculate the weight and the height. Our little cushion is not powerful enough to support the egg. Since the rest of the group can't think anything better so we all agree with this idea, no argument at all. Then we distribute works to everyone. One person who is extremely careful needs to hold the egg. Two people make "air straws" by taping up two sides of the straw. The person who comes up with the design actually make the contraption. Last person needs to write down everyone's name and draw the picture of our cushion. Everything goes very smooth. We have enough time to plan everything. Then we take the action just as we planned. We finished in 7 minutes and tested on our table. We were very confident that the cushion will work out however, it still failed. I think we should ask the shortest person from our group to drop the egg, it will be more likely to success. But never mind, at least we learned a lot from the experiment. Next time we will do better!
